The short version

The Gild app doesn’t collect, upload or share anything. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. Your books and everything about your reading stay on your phone.

The only personal information we hold is the email address of anyone who joins the waitlist for the Gild reader device on gildreader.com, described below.

What Gild stores, and where

• A copy of each book you add, kept in the app’s private storage on your device.
• Your reading positions, bookmarks, highlights, notes, reading time and settings, also on your device only.

Removing a book deletes Gild’s copy and its data. Uninstalling the app deletes all of it.

Backups

If you create a backup, Gild writes one file to the place you choose (for example your phone’s Downloads folder or a cloud drive you pick). Gild never sends it anywhere itself; what happens to that file is up to you and the service you saved it to.

Permissions

Gild opens only the files you choose or share to it. It doesn’t need access to your contacts, location, camera, microphone or the internet to read your books.

The Gild reader waitlist

If you join the waitlist on gildreader.com, we store your email address, the date you signed up and the country your request came from (worked out by our hosting provider from your connection, not your exact location).

• What it’s for: emailing you news about the Gild reader device, such as when it can be ordered. Nothing else, and we never sell or share your address.
• Where it’s kept: with Cloudflare, which hosts gildreader.com and stores the list for us.
• How long: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it. If the Gild reader doesn’t go ahead, we delete the whole list.
• Your choices: every email has an unsubscribe link. You can also ask us what we hold about you, or to correct or delete it, by writing to hello@gildreader.com.

This website

gildreader.com doesn’t use cookies, analytics or advertising. Like any website host, Cloudflare processes basic request information, such as IP addresses, to deliver pages and protect the site from abuse.

Children

Gild doesn’t knowingly collect information from anyone, including children.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date. Questions or requests: hello@gildreader.com.
